Teach this script — denominators stay the same
Are the denominators the same? If yes, add or subtract the numerators and keep the denominator the same. Example: 1/4 + 2/4 = 3/4.
If denominators are different, find a common denominator using equivalent fractions. Example: 1/2 + 1/3 becomes 3/6 + 2/6.
Once denominators are the same, add or subtract the numerators. Keep the denominator. Simplify if needed. Example: 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6.
